WASHINGTON DC, United States of America - The Washington Post reports that the Environmental Protection Agency has prosecuted a third less polluters while the Bush Administration has been in power. Critics claim that the EPA's inaction has "emboldened polluters" who reason that they will not be prosecuted for violating US environmental law. Eric Schaeffer, former director of the Office of Civil Enforcement, argued, "You don't get cleanup, and you don't get deterrence." Schaeffer resigned in 2002 in protest to the administration's lack of diligent oversight and prosecution.
